SEARCH OPERATORS – PART TWO
Next set of search operators – We discussed one set yesterday and we would be discussing one more now.
All in Title
So say this is your client who has a website called arenachembur.in and you are basically trying to get this course page the animation course page of this website you are trying to get it ranking for a word like “animation courses in chembur” by the domain name you would have guessed that this is say a franchise of Arena in Chembur. So the first thing trying to get visibility and traffic from people who want to do courses in chembur. This is a page that you want to start getting to rank.Having said that if you go to Google and this is the first such operator. If do all in title colon (all in title:) animation courses in Chembur,so what you will get you see that there are just 24 results if you don’t do (all in title:) you have lots of results, because this is a search operator it’s picking up only those pages which have “animation courses in chembur” in the title that is why the number has reduced to 24.
All in URL
Similarly you can do the others which is (all in url:) you just get 8 results “animation courses in Chembur” – wherever it is in the URL, only those would be shown. It need not be exactly in the same order, so you can have an “animation” keyword somewhere and then “courses in chembur” towards the end of the URL it doesn’t matter. So if you wanted to be in a certain order then you have to use the specific sign. You’re just getting one result because it is it has animation courses in chembur exactly in the order of this phrase.
All in Text
And the last one is (Allintext:) What this means is that wherever on the page
basically in the content of the page if there is animation courses in Chembur it will be picked up. And a more useful result would be the specific exact search one. You will see that it just goes under 6 so they’re just 6 pages which have “animation courses in chembur” mentioned exactly the way it is.
HOW CAN YOU USE OPERATORS FOR COMPETITION RESEARCH ?
What does this what does this tell us ?
So if you are the client and if you’re discussing with the client and you also want to get a sense of the competition,so one of the most important skills in the SEO process today is to understand which keywords you have to go after. That’s the first decisions you have to make. And one of the ways you can do that is just use these operators and figure out how many other websites are thinking like you and have actually tried to optimize the title in the manner that you would be optimizing now for your client’s website.
So it gives you a good sense that in this case(allintitle) there are 24 results so there are 24 websites who are already thinking like you, who have an offering like you and have ‘animation courses in chembur’ in the title.
This is not so competitive because it’s a smaller area. If you go animation courses in Mumbai the result would be a lot bigger, Five Forty Seven results because a lot more people would have animation courses in Mumbai mentioned.
If you go to a lot more competitive category let’s say you took tickets to Dubai. So we are talking about travel and travel you see that these numbers goes to 31300 results. These 31300 websites who already implemented the title tag in the manner that you would be implementing it on the website so it just shows you that the competition is high.
So this is the way you get a sense of the competition. Although a word of caution here. It’s not just the title or the URL which determines the ranking – It’s a whole range of factors. But this is among things which Google looks at so it gives you a sense of competition,it gives you a good hints with respect to what keywords you should choose, gives a good discussion points with the client.
